In the current economic climate with resources and funding decreasing at an alarming rate, it’s becoming increasingly important for organisations to review the way in which they deliver services and identify opportunities to generate income.

Northamptonshire CVS were in a particularly difficult situation several years ago. At the time they undertook a review of the services and products they provided, and the needs of the sector. As a result of this work they were able to identify a need within the sector for a monthly funding newsletter and an opportunity to generate income for the organisation.

Since Northamptonshire CVS launched the Funding Alert in 2003 they have over 50 subscribers including statutory agencies. Their subscribers report gaining a total of about £500,000 in new funding as a result of the information provided.

Other organisations outside of Northamptonshire have now contracted with the CVS to receive the Funding Alert and have been able to brand the document as their own, enabling funding advisors to spend more time providing much needed face-to-face support to groups.

Hannah Mills Funding Advice Worker at Milton Keynes CVO said,

“The Funding Alert has been a great way to keep up to date with all the funding streams coming out. Monitoring all the funds is a full-time job so it’s really useful to have a condensed version delivered to my inbox every month! We have now adapted the Funding Alert to make it more relevant to Milton Keynes- based groups, but having the information in this format really saves me the time and hassle of searching for funding. A really useful tool!”
