EDF Public Sector Equality Duty Review
The Equality & Diversity Forum equality duty reviewing working group has produced a briefing to support VCS organisations and networks in responding to the Government’s Equality Duty review.
The briefing includes suggested actions and messages for this stage of the review, plus a template letter that can be adapted for sending to ministers.
The key messages at this stage of the review are:
- When public bodies apply the equality duty effectively, it helps them to get their services and policies right for our modern, diverse society
- It is too early to assess the impact of the current equality duty because it was only implemented last year so any review should not take place until evidence is available.
- If the review does go ahead, Parliament and the groups of people who are intended to benefit most from the duty should be properly involved.
