Eat cake, drink tea and discuss death

At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.

A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. A Death Cafe is a special occasion - a discussion group where the only topic is death. And it makes for a fantastic conversation!

More information on the international phenomenon that is Death cafe can be found at

For this Death Café we have a particularly special venue. We are being hosted by The Coffin Works, Birmingham’s newest heritage attraction. Opened in October 2014, the restored Newman Brothers factory is a former coffin furniture manufactory giving us a taste of industrial life in Birmingham. The coffin fittings collection is both extensive and unique, contributing to our understanding of the changing attitudes to death and indeed life over a hundred-year period.

It’s a match made in heaven!
